Medical Weight Loss
Several years ago while I was working the counter at Physician’s Plaza Pharmacy, a physician from a weight loss clinic came in to buy a snack. As I always do, I stepped over and said hi. As he left, I made a comment to him that we were part of the Oakdell Pharmacy family and as such we could compound customized medications. I went on tell him that if he ever needed something or couldn’t get what his patients needed, to call me. Little did I know that 2 weeks later, his boss would call me. That call changed my life. The reason he was calling me, was that his whole practice (which was weight loss) was based on injecting HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) into patients for the purpose of losing weight. At the time, prescription strength HCG was dissappearing off the market due to a major manufacturing shortage. I had never heard of HCG being used in this way. When he asked me what I could do about the shortage, I simply said let me look into it. After further investigation, I discovered the reason for the shortage. A guy by the name of Kevin Trudeaux had written a book called The Weight Loss Cure based upon the writings of Dr. ATW Simeon. The book was an overnight best seller and the demand for prescription HCG quadrupled overnight. You see, there is a delicate balance between supply and demand in the pharmaceutical industry. Because of his book, the demand for HCG went out the roof, and the supply chain could not keep up. To make a long story short, we began compounding injectable HCG for weight loss.
Fast forward to January of 2011. After several years of providing injectable HCG along with many other medications for use in weight loss, I decided it was time for me to be the patient. So with my doctor’s approval, I began the HCG diet and the results were nothing short of amazing! I lost 31 pounds in the first 6 weeks and an additional 25 pounds by the end of June, 2011. It has now been over a year since I began my journey, and I can reflect on my experiences as both a patient and a compounding pharmacist. There is a lot of misinformation out there about HCG and weight loss. There is also a lot of people “selling” HCG without a clue as to what the safety and legal considerations are.
